The 2008-2009 school year is off and we are all running! I sincerely hope that whatever your position is at your district and/or school you have had a successful beginning. We already have had a number of MIEM sponsored activities. The schedule for the next two months is going to keep us very busy and will provide you, and those on your staff, many opportunities to continue to learn and grow. We are excited about the launching of our updated and restructured MIEM Website. Under the leadership of Nancy Hawkins, MIEM’s Director of Marketing, members of our team have worked to bring to you what we believe to be an even more vibrant and user-friendly tool. We know that this enhanced version will keep you updated and interacting with us in a way to take full advantage of what MIEM has to offer. Our goal is to be a supportive part of your winning team! I would also like to issue you the challenge to make this the year to be certified. Take some time to check out our website and see how you can begin or continue SAPC certification as well as what MIEM can do to help you move toward MSBO certification. There are ways to earn certification credits and SB-CEUs at our conferences, special stand alone sessions, through our Professional Development On Demand series, and online classes. If you have specific questions about any of this, you can contact Danielle Dankenbring our registrar at 517-327-2589, Courtney Byam our Certification Coordinator at 517-327-5937, or me at 517-327-9267. |

Everything You Need to Know About Identity Theft Workshop Series |
|
Learn Safeguards to Prevent Identity Theft of Your School’s Data as of January 2008, The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse has documented more than 217 million cases of compromised records from government agencies, schools, businesses and other organizations. Is your school’s data protected? Do you have safeguards in place that protect your student’s and employee’s personal information? Most people think of theft of financial data, yet schools house a lot of non-financial data that also needs to be protected. MSBO, MASA and MASB have teamed up with IDentity Theft LOSS Prevention, LLC to help schools examine identity theft compliance requirements, and to assist school districts in reducing the risk of fraud, theft, or loss during the collection, handling, storage, communication, transmission, and destruction of confidential and sensitive information in the workplace.
